Cowboys quarterback reveals two surprise roster candidates

As the Dallas Cowboys' regular season approaches, some difficult decisions must be made.

Specifically, the Cowboys, like every other team, must reduce their current roster of about 90 players to 53 by August 29.

Some positions will be extremely difficult to pare down, probably none more so than receiver. The Cowboys currently have 13 receivers on their roster.

CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup are essentially locks, although Jalen Tolbert and Kavonte Turpin also have compelling claims. Other receivers will have to distinguish themselves in some fashion in order to make the roster.

A pair of young receivers have done just that, according to third-string quarterback Will Grier.

"I think Jalen Cropper's done a great job of making plays," Grier added. "Dennis Houston's a consistent guy every day: he gets separation."

Cropper signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cowboys earlier this offseason. He recorded 83 receptions for 1,086 yards and five touchdowns as a senior at Fresno State, earning first-team

All-Mountain West honors. Cropper has piqued the interest of Cowboys fans with a few huge plays in practice, including a touchdown against all-pro CB Trevon Diggs.
