The Garnet was created in 2010 by the visionary minds and palates behind Syringa, The Bluebird, and White Pine Coffee,
Autumn and Viljo Basso, and continued in style by a couple of organic farmers and foodies, Justin and Angeline McLane.
The Garnet is now owned by Kristin Von Till, who has worked here off and on since the day it opened.
In addition to her love affair with the Garnet, Kristin is a Realtor® with Tomlinson Sotheby’s Realty
here in Coeur d’Alene. Prior to that, she spent 15 years working on the business side of the music industry.
The star garnet was designated the official state gem of Idaho in 1967. More precious than either star rubies or star sapphires,
the Idaho garnet is usually dark purple or plum in color with four rays in the star. Occasionally the star has six rays,
as with a sapphire. Star garnets are only found two places in the world: India and Idaho.
